At the end of August 2024, I was invited by Blind Walls Gallery to create a mural at Poppodium Mezz in Breda. The Mezzmerizing Parade is an image that reflects on the military history of the former officers’ mess.
Officers and soldiers in colorful uniforms and outfits, adorned with feathers, sashes, and shiny medals. Back then, symbols of masculinity and power. Today, these ornate decorations and accessories might clash with the stereotype of the ‘tough man’—a delightful contrast.
Carnivalesque Brabant also gives us the opportunity to poke fun at this military display. The uniforms become costumes, and the show of power is ridiculed, creating a message of joy and playfulness.
