At the beginning of 2025, I had the opportunity to make work for a solo exhibition at Blind Walls Gallery in Breda. The question arose: “What do I want to make?” I didn’t know what I wanted to create for myself—let alone something that would be worthy of an exhibition. It had to be engaging, new, original. And that’s where I got conflicted with myself.
I began analyzing my thought process and asked myself why it had to be something perfect in the first place. Does something meaningful only come from choosing the path of greatest resistance?
I introduced a new question: “When was the last time I was truly fascinated by something, and had fun?” The question took me back to a visit to the Natural History Museum in Brussels where I had been completely fascinated by the dinosaur skeletons and all the information around the fascinating creatures. That’s when I decided—I just wanted to draw dinosaurs.
The project became a journey of discovery and a reappreciation of my own enthusiasm and spontaneity in a creative process. I started drawing dinosaurs in my sketchbooks destined only for that specific theme. Eventually I found a goal: to see what would emerge, to enjoy the process of making something. From that came animations, illustrations, ceramic figurines, and risograph prints—in large formats, small formats, and everything in between. But after all, what mattered most was a joyful reconnection with a part of myself filled with curiosity and excitement.
